The Jesus Film Project is the brainchild of the late Dr. Bill Bright, who started Campus Crusade for Christ in the 50’s to initially mentor new Christian converts for evangelism. In 1956, Dr. Bright introduced “God’s Plan for Your Life”, setting the foundation for its discipleship programs. By the late 1950’s, Campus Crusade (now known as Cru) had grown to over 40 U.S. campuses and three countries, eventually evolving into a global ministry, which features the Jesus Film Project and serves over 88 nations The JESUS film was released in 1979 to tell the story of Jesus from the Gospel of Luke. Later, a bountiful donation by Bunker and Carolyn Hunt allowed the JESUS film to be released in American theaters. In 1985 it was formerly incorporated into the evangelism efforts of Campus Crusade for Christ. The totality of what the JESUS film has accomplished is beyond total measurement. Today, the film has over 2,199 translations. Most of the translations have been done at the Cru headquarters in Orlando, FL a ministry partner that primarily works on language translations of the Bible.
